Scenario Overview

The vitality of CMDB stems from the consumption, feedback, and iteration of scenarios. We continuously identify requirements for resource configuration and graph data through various IT daily operations including IT service management, fault monitoring, risk assessment, security auditing, analytical reporting, and visualization, thereby forming practical high-frequency consumption scenarios.

Scenario-Driven Delivery Model

The next-generation CMDB data management platform adopts an iterative delivery model centered on "scenarios". Targeting specific scenarios, it implements "7-step delivery" to rapidly enable data support for scenarios, ensuring data generation and maintenance at minimal cost while maximizing value realization.

Unlike traditional CMDB solutions that follow a bottom-up approach of "build platform first, then use platform", we advocate a "scenario-first" strategy:

  • Scenario-based planning with phased implementation - Think Big, Start Small;

  • Focus on priority scenarios by mapping workflow, data requirements, consumption frequency, and scenario outputs;

  • Define service models tailored to scenarios, including service combinations, frequency, and interfaces;

  • Construct minimal viable data models through curated standard discovery tasks for data production and governance;

  • Continuously optimize data and services through scenario consumption monitoring to maximize value output.

Built-in consumption scenarios include but are not limited to: resource visualization, topology exploration, application profiling, network segment management, data center panorama, rack capacity monitoring, change auditing, regulatory reporting, and analytical dashboards.

Topology Exploration

Enables boundaryless exploration and manipulation of resource relationship graphs in topological views, with real-time tracking of dynamic changes.

Integrated with federated data technology for one-stop access to resource configurations, alerts, changes, and performance metrics.

Application Profiling

A dedicated module for managing application systems and their components. Aggregates hardware/software resources from application perspectives, generates real-time profiles via auto-discovery, and provides sub-scenarios including service call topology, failure impact analysis, change risk assessment, and configuration file management.

Network Segment Management

A dedicated module for IP segment governance. Enables rapid search of IP capacity status in CMDB and detailed inspection of resource instances associated with specific IP addresses.

Rack Management

A dedicated module for rack administration. Facilitates quick search of CMDB-registered racks and managed devices, with visualization of U-space capacity and detailed asset information.

Analytical Reporting

Enables multidimensional statistical analysis of resource data. Default report templates include: resource trend analysis, expiration analysis, capacity analysis, multidimensional analysis, and historical analysis.
